Chinese Medicine for Weight Loss is Dangerous
Pai You Guo The supplement contains a banned drug, it increases the risk of cerebral vascular accident, cancer and heart attack
Many U.S. women. UU. Chinese still use a weight loss supplement that was recalled because of dangerous components, according to a recent study by Dr. Pieter Cohen, general internist and professor at Harvard Medical School.
Pai You Guo The drug contains sibutramine and phenolphthalein, both banned in the U.S.. UU. because they increase the risk of heart attack, stroke (stroke) and cancer.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of USA. UU. announced the withdrawal of Pai You Guo but this measure seems to have had little effect on the number of women using the product for weight loss.
Dr. Cohen and his team of researchers from the Faculty of Medicine, Harvard surveyed more than 550 women who were born in Brazil and lived in the Boston metropolitan area, and found that nearly a quarter of them had used or currently using Pai You Guo. Most women who use the supplement have experienced side effects such as insomnia, palpitations, fainting, and addicted.
The researchers also found that women who used the contaminated supplement were three times more likely to buy it at local stores through the Internet.
The study was published in the Journal of General Internal Medicine.
A surprising number of women use weight loss supplements promoted as all-natural products that really are a dangerous mix of drugs prohibited. This could have real public health consequences, said Dr. Pieter Cohen. Even when you know that supplements are dangerous, the FDA lacks the ability to remove them from stores.
Until in the U.S.. UU. have tighter regulations, people should not use any supplement that claims to help you lose weight in a short period of time, advise the researchers.
